After the dust settled in the high mountains of New Mexico, the team came away from the Tour of the Gila with stage wins from Travis McCabe and Serghei Tvetcov, and Zuke finishing 3rd overall while taking home the top Young Rider Jersey.

Serghei was one of our GC hopefuls but crashed near the end of Stage 1 and lost time. The repercussions of that mishap, to paraphrase Gord Fraser, cost us throughout the race by reducing our tactical options and ability to apply pressure. That said, we can’t complain. Keegan finished 4th and Zuke 6th up the summit finish on Mogollon (Stage 1). The next day Travis and Zuke would come 1-2 in the bunch kick of Stage 2’s Inner Loop Road Race. Then a bandaged Serghei won Stage 3’s ITT. McCabe would come 2nd in the following stage’s crit.

The final stage finished up the Gila Monster and everyone got up the road to apply pressure on race leader James Piccoli. In the end, Piccoli was able to contain us, forcing Keegan and Serghei to work with Zuke to protect his 3rd place overall and the Young Rider’s jersey. It wasn’t perfect but it was like a good but not great bowl of chili: it still made you feel good inside.
